From Quitting to Freedom

How I Went From 0 to 100,000+ Followers & a 6-Figure Business ​

Hey, I'm Stijn Noorman.

I've been creating content online for about 4 years.

My writing has generated over 200 million organic views and helped me build a multi-six-figure solo creator business that gives me freedom and control over my time and location.

I've also helped 1,700+ customers and clients improve their writing, grow their audiences, and build their businesses.

But when I first started writing online, I had no idea what I was doing.

So I followed the advice from successful creators:

  • I posted 3–5 times per day
  • I spent hours creating content
  • I tried following the latest trends
  • I tried posting at the optimal times
  • I tried engaging with bigger creators
  • I tried to give as much value as possible 
  • I tried following the latest algorithm advice

But after months of consistent effort, I had gained just 183 followers.

Meanwhile, other creators publishing similar content were growing much faster.

I couldn't understand why.

I gave it some more time, but after 3 more months I still only had 281 followers.

I thought the algorithm hated me or that the game was rigged.

And since I was busy finishing my criminology studies, I decided it wasn't a good use of my time.

So I quit.

6 months later, I graduated.

That's when I realized how badly I wanted to avoid spending the next 40 years working a soul-crushing job I hated.

I wanted freedom and control over my time.

Fortunately, I had saved enough money from side jobs to give myself one year to build something online.

If I failed, I'd have to get a job.

So on July 3, 2023, I decided to give writing another shot.

I restarted with 281 followers:

This time, I decided to approach things differently.

I invested more than $30,000 in writing and content creation courses, cohorts, and coaching programs from some of the best creators in the world.

I learned a lot.

But no matter how much I studied, I kept running into the same problem:

It always felt like something was missing.

Every course gave me a few pieces of the puzzle, but none showed me how to put the entire puzzle together.

And I realized that if I wanted a complete system, I'd have to build it myself.

So I started figuring it out for myself.

I studied thousands of successful posts from other people to figure out what actually worked for them.

Then I started posting a lot of content to test it for myself. 

And within just 8 weeks of restarting, my new approach was already paying off:

But that was just the beginning.

Over the following years, I wrote 60,000+ tweets and 1,000+ long-form posts.

I also wrote thousands of posts on Substack, Threads, and LinkedIn.

I kept experimenting and analyzing my results to improve.

I looked at which ideas, hooks, formats, and post types got the most views, followers, email subscribers, and sales.

And I discovered something interesting:

Most of what I was doing wasn't working.

But a small percentage worked incredibly well.

Out of my 60,000+ posts, about 200 of them got me more than 80% of my growth.

So I stopped wasting time on things that didn't work and doubled down on what did.

Gradually, I figured out how to consistently find great ideas, write content people actually wanted to read, and turn successful content into repeatable formats.

I also developed systems to repurpose my ideas across all platforms and create better content in less time.

Instead of constantly wondering what to write and how to write it, I finally had a process I could rely on.

And it paid off.

After a little more than 1 year, I hit my first $15K month:

I'm by no means the richest creator, but this milestone meant a lot to me because it meant that I didn't have to get a job I hated.

I had achieved my goal:

Getting freedom and control over my time and location.

And building an audience by writing online is what allowed me to do this.

My writing helped me build an audience of 100,000+ followers, generate more than 200 million organic views, and build a multi 6-figure business.
